Thinking About Booking a Newborn Session? Read This First
If you’re an expectant parent or you’ve just brought your baby home—first of all, congratulations. You’ve stepped into one of the most transformative, emotional, and exhausting chapters of life. And somewhere between feedings, diaper changes, and figuring out what day it is, the idea of booking a newborn session might feel… like a lot.
I get it. As a mom myself, I’ve been in those fuzzy slippers too. So let’s talk about why many families hesitate to schedule newborn photos—and why it might still be one of the most meaningful things you do in these early days.
7 Reasons Parents Hesitate to Book a Newborn Session (And Why You Still Should)
1. “I feel overwhelmed. I can barely function, let alone plan a photo shoot.”
Yes. This stage is intense. But that’s exactly why I’ve created an experience that doesn’t ask you to do more. You simply show up. I guide everything.Your only job? Snuggle your baby… maybe take a nap or watch a movie while I take care of the rest.
2. “I don't feel like myself right now.”
You’re healing, adjusting, and running on very little sleep. But that’s part of the story too.
You don’t have to dress up or be anything other than what you are. My goal is to gently document this fleeting window—with honesty and tenderness, not perfection.
3. “My baby’s already a few weeks old—did I miss the window?”
Not at all.
While the first two weeks are often ideal for posed newborn portraits, I also offer baby-led, natural sessions that beautifully capture your baby at any age.
I’ll simply work with where you’re at—no stress.
4. “I’m worried about the cost.”
I completely understand. Photography is an investment—but it’s one that becomes more meaningful with time.
When my own kids were little, I tried to save money and do everything myself… and I missed it. I thought I would always remember those early days, but life moved fast.
Now I wish more than anything that I had more of those moments captured.
Don’t be like me. These photos aren’t just for today—they’re for years down the road, when the little details begin to fade.
5. “I don’t like being in front of the camera.”
You’re not alone. So many parents feel this way.
That’s why I’ve created a calm, judgment-free space where you can feel supported and never pressured.
And if you’d rather keep the focus mostly on your baby, that’s completely okay too.
I use gentle posing and flattering angles so you don’t have to worry about how to look or what to do.
Sometimes I imagine these photos being seen years from now—when your baby is in their twenties, or holding their own child.
Can you imagine how much love they’ll feel seeing you just as you were in those first days?
6. “My home isn’t picture perfect.”
Good news—my studio is.
My Lake Tapps photography studio is a cozy, peaceful space with everything prepared for you. You don’t need to clean, decorate, or bring anything but yourselves (and diapers).
7. “I’m not sure it’s worth the effort.”
Here’s the truth: your baby will only be this small once.
These soft cheeks, curled fingers, tiny toes, and sleepy yawns—they’ll change before you even realize it.
And you deserve to remember them beautifully.
You Deserve to Be in the Frame
These photos aren’t just for today.
They’re for five years from now, when your child climbs into your lap and asks, “Was I really that small?”
They’re for the days when your memory feels blurry, but the love is still bold.
So if you’ve been unsure, let this be your permission slip.
Your story matters.
Your baby’s beginning matters.
And I would be honored to help you hold onto it.
