Can You Take Newborn Photos After Two Weeks?

Yes, absolutely! While newborn sessions are often scheduled within the first two weeks after birth, that does not mean you have missed your chance if your baby is older.

This sweet baby was 25 days old at the time of his newborn photography session—and we were still able to capture beautiful, peaceful images that his family will treasure forever.

Why Are Newborn Photos Usually Taken Within Two Weeks?

Many photographers recommend scheduling newborn photos when the baby is between 7 and 14 days old. During this stage, babies often sleep deeply and naturally curl into the cozy positions they were used to in the womb.

However, every baby is different. Some two-week-old babies are alert and sensitive to movement, while some babies who are three or four weeks old sleep soundly throughout their session.

Your baby’s temperament, feeding, and comfort are often more important than their exact age.

Is 25 Days Old Too Late for Newborn Photos?

Not at all! At 25 days old, your baby is still incredibly tiny, and there are so many beautiful details worth documenting—from their little fingers and toes to their delicate eyelashes and sleepy expressions.

Older newborns may spend more time awake or prefer not to curl into certain poses. Instead of forcing a specific pose, I follow your baby’s cues and adjust the session based on what feels most comfortable and natural for them.

We may capture a combination of:

  • Peaceful sleeping portraits

  • Sweet awake expressions

  • Wrapped images

  • Simple portraits using props

  • Close-up images of tiny details

  • Photographs with parents and siblings

Sometimes, the additional eye contact and expressions from an older newborn make the gallery even more personal.

Will My Baby Still Sleep During the Session?

Many babies between three and six weeks old still sleep beautifully during their newborn session, especially after a full feeding. They may need a little more time to settle, and they may wake more easily when being moved, but that is completely okay.

My newborn sessions are never rushed. We allow plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, cuddling, and soothing your baby whenever needed.

The goal is not to make your baby fit into a specific plan. The session is shaped around your baby.

What If My Baby Does Not Want to Be Posed?

Your baby’s safety and comfort always come first.

If your baby does not enjoy a particular position, I simply move on. Beautiful newborn photography does not depend on complicated posing. Wrapped portraits, natural positions, close-up details, and family photographs can all create a timeless and meaningful gallery.

Every newborn session is unique because every baby is unique.

Have You Missed the Newborn Stage?

If your baby is already three, four, or even several weeks old, please do not assume it is too late. I regularly photograph older newborns and adapt each session to the baby in front of me.

The final images may look slightly different from a session photographed during the first two weeks, but they can be every bit as beautiful.

These photographs of this 25-day-old baby are a lovely reminder that there is no single perfect day to document your growing family. The best time is often simply when you are ready.
